  I'm honestly a big U.S. Postal Service FAN. Honestly. But--here is my first seriously negative experience…
  
  I left my credit card on the table when I left for the airport. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, and I travel again Friday. Thankfully, my boyfriend utilized this pricey overnight mail service...
  
  But today, Sag Harbor post office "refused to deliver" my urgent overnight package to the hotel. They didn't even leave notice that they had the package. If it weren't for the *incredible staff at Baron's Cove Inn* (thank you!), it would have been a rough holiday.
  
  A hotel staff member (still need to figure out who and thank them) walked into town and got the package from the post office. How this person knew it was there, I don't know, but I am *so* thankful.
  
  The post office told him that the package did not have a "recognized address." Apparently, the street number as opposed to the P.O. was a mail faux pas, so they "refused to deliver it." Refusal is an act of choice. This is a TINY whaling village where everyone knows everyone. They know the hotel.
  
  [Just for contrast: my friend in East Calais, VT told a story about how his dad mailed a package with only my friend's name and town written on it, to see if it would get there. It did. Because some small town mail carriers take pride in their expertise and knowing their area, while others apparently use it to lord over the masses. But I digress.]
  
  When I tried to call the post office, they let the phone ring several times, picked up the receiver, and slammed it back down. No lie. I never even said hello.
  
  So, Dear Sag Harbor Post Office:
  
  It's hard to fathom why a postal courier would "refuse to deliver" an overnight priority package to a local hotel in the tiniest of towns. It's not like it's outside of your job description, or even out of your way. But holding my package without notice was spiteful and could have put me in real jeopardy.
  
  Thankfully, there are kind people in your tiny town willing to go well beyond their job descriptions to help others; pick up your slack; and counter your lack of postal decorum (do you slam phone receivers in the ears of callers regularly?). But, in spite of your unwillingness to do your federal duty, or at the very least be gracious the day before a holiday of fellowship, I'm able to buy dinner tonight and travel on Friday.
  
  Oh--by the way, you forgot these. I'll leave them right here for you. Happy Thanksgiving:
